We’re at that time of the year when trends, mandatory things and prohibitions are revealed. We’re at that time of the year when minds, even the less brighter, reveal what became the inspirations and knowledge they chewed during the previous months. The outcome of the work of synthesis or conceptualism, the revival or transformation, is now presented during the Fashion Weeks of the major capitals. Although you nurture a complete disdain for trends or fashion victims don’t get mistaken skeptics: fans or not, followers or not, it is important to recognize that these gentlemen and ladies dictate what is allowed or forbidden love in a future next. This is the motto for which it is to be observed during several seasons but no time is presented as appropriate, such as when the world’s eyes are focused on the very subject under review.
That more than accomplished, and irrefutable argument, is that fashion is a cycle of reinvention and recycling of inspirations and ideas. Complex phenomenon, resulting from observations and sociocultural influences the context in which it develops, fashion reflects society and timing of which is the result.
Therefore, trying to coexist with these two concepts, we observe intrinsic tendencies to various periods. Look at the ’70s, marked by sexual liberation, feminism and experiences with psychedelics, which resulted in parts of affirmation remarkable portent, as pants to bell mouth, the bright parts and ultra shapes – exaggerated, reflections of an ideological and cultural revolution; or 80s, marked by the departure of clothing and aerobics to the streets, reflecting the cult of the body, see Dirty Dancing and Fame, the ecstasy of woman like you in the world of work and the consequential facts of female Armani.
Throughout human history, what we wear is a mirror of how and where we live. What is curious is the recycling and reuse of the aesthetics of previous decades in collections of nowadays, such a succession.
Introducing the issue, put like this: fashion is a cycle; observed if the history of the evolution of fashion is noted periodically a reuse of past aesthetic lines; can repair that, every decade, in their cultural, social and economic intricacies, has its key parts, its well-defined visual canons.
That said, it would be easy to identify what defined us in the past two decades. Or some time away to do so is needed? Because it is possible to conclude that the latest collections of fashion designers and stylists are inspired by decades past. But this recycling happens because we review the attitudes and values of certain decades, or because they deplete the source of ideas and, more importantly, new creations (see yourself now and up a Mary Quant invented the mini-skirt)?
The conceptual style, giving value to a minimal aesthetic and working with the essence of things instead of the things themselves, is undoubtedly a contemporary trend. But is this trend, this philosophy and way of being, a dead end? Our only option after so inventive recycling?
